How are you really feeling, today?
I am feeling a little gripey… I woke up yesterday feeling that I should have started the GetSmarter course on 25th March, it would have kept the job-seeking frustrations at bay. Who even wakes up with that as first thought?
About job-seeking. I’ve been applying for HR positions. The feedback has been “you’re applying below your experience” and “the other candidate has more experience with creative personalities” and “you have the right attitude for the role but the other candidate has a lot more international experience”. So because I introspect first and make work of feedback I try to see the recruiter’s perspective.
I found myself at a question after working through the feedback. It is a question linked to the recruitment of HR personalities for employee engagement roles, IR roles and training & development roles that stands out for me after working with the feedback is this:
People here are people there are people everywhere, not so? People anywhere and everywhere have the same set of needs, don’t we? If a candidate can demonstrate understanding, empathy, leadership style, highlights and a track record then shouldn’t this come before the other stuff?
It’s not a question to pass judgement on the recruiters choice of the right candidate. In my mind it’s that recruitment for people-centric roles should be focused on the candidate's experience and ability to add value.
And then… my community mobiliser (NGO) voice comes to the fore saying: “remember when so and so was the wrong appointment for community ‘x’ because of a mismatch of local history and attitudes and beliefs?”

“Forward ho!!” then towards a solutions-based mindset:
Is the universe saying “go travel”?
Now I know some of you may be thinking “She’s a startup Entrepreneur and she’s applying for a “time-bound or permanent employment prospects?” You’d be right to question. I did too. As a Coachee I was asked a few years ago now, think it was 2012 when I first heard his question” “why can’t you do both?”. He was speaking about the voice in my head that was saying “you have to put off the idea of starting a business because you need a salary”. Too few entrepreneurs have the perfect world scenario of dropping everything to start a business.
Tip for startup Entrepreneur community: #sidehustle until it becomes your #mainhustle but this doesn’t mean stealing the Boss’ time.
So if you’ve reached the end of this lengthy post and while I’m Bossing my own hours in the day right now, let me share with you this:
If you’re not seeing your way through all the HR admin or HR services to your Management team or to your Employees or to your interested parties then send pieces of work then I would love to assist in the role of consultant or contractor.
I’m geared to work from your office, site or my home office and I have the capacity.
Now, if you’re in manufacturing then it’s even better. Continuous improvements and increasing productivity to improve competitiveness is exciting stuff for me. Strange HR person… I know.
Why you may need to fire your most talented employee…because it’s useless to write a piece without sharing someone else’s views that resonate: https://youtu.be/VeAf1hoGOHw
Don’t forget to answer the question right at the top of this post. It is a real question. Too often we say it’s fine and spend the rest of the day or months suppressing a thought.
